In 1996 a British Rock Band, last known to be performing as "The Secret Method" took the decision to immerse themselves in what they believed to be "a haunted house". The Black River House Murders of 1992 can only have added to their expectations of atmosphere. Their aim was to record a groundbreaking debut album, but it was not to be. The band were never seen or heard from again and the music which was recovered by the police after their disappearance presented a chilling and apparently first person account of the decline of the murderer John Marchant, with a level of detail which they could never have known. All recordings from this period that are known to exist have now been successfully obtained and will be reproduced here for the first time in mp3 format. I have puzzled for some months over these recordings, trying to assess their value in understanding the Black River House murders... I have come to believe that these recordings should now be opened to the public. Their account of the descent of John Marchant from family man to murderer, strange though it is may provide us with the most useful information to surface about the murders since the more traditional policing methods were terminated in 1993. It is also my firm belief that the tragic disappearance of a promising young band means that these, their final recordings should be accessible as a testament to their efforts. I have after much negotiation secured them and I am now in the process of transferring them to a digital format. I will post them as they become available. Peter Bramble. |
