I am indebted to sound engineer Mitch Bell for the technical notes on the pages in this section. Mitch was fortunate enough to work with the members of The Secret Method before their departure for Ireland and his services continue to be invaluable in selecting and restoring the works recovered from Black River House.

The band used both their 4-Track demo recorder and the more sophisticated 8-Track machine to capture these instrumental compositions. We cannot know their purpose entirely. Some tracks seem to have been created for their own sake, perhaps to be used as tone setting ‘interludes’ or segues, whilst others seem more like unfinished or aborted songs.

It is when listening to these stark, impressionistic pieces that the truly disturbing nature of the case becomes most apparent. In a sense one can almost imagine a level of lucidity in these pieces as the band members were effectively created the soundtrack to their own fate set to work on a fitting soundtrack.

With the finished songs and demo compositions in this section, we were lucky enough to be furnished with titles or at least lyrics to help us to create honourary names for the untitled tracks. However the instrumental pieces on this page remain, as yet, nameless.

Peter has raised the interesting and I believe fitting concept of opening this quandary to visitors. If the music moves you to do so, please feel free to forward your title suggestions to peter@blackriverhouse.com
