I am indebted to sound engineer Mitch Bell for the technical notes on the pages in this section. Mitch was fortunate enough to work with the members of The Secret Method before their departure for Ireland and his services continue to be invaluable in selecting and restoring the works recovered from Black River House.

The Secret Method took a small 4-Track cassette recorder to Black River House. It was used extensively by all three of the band members to lay down songs and instrumental ideas. I have been working with Peter to digitally restore these tracks, a process which continues to be somewhat painstaking though extremely rewarding.

The amount of material recovered from Black River House in March 1996 is prolific and massively varied. As a sound engineer it provides me with both a technical challenge and a fascinating musical insight.

Some of the material on this page is duplicated in the more polished 8-Track recording sessions, whilst other pieces exist only in rough-hewn demo format. Here we present to you a selection of the intriguing pieces we have so far ‘cleaned-up’.

Unlike the finished recordings the songs featured here were untitled to the best of out knowledge. Having paid close attention to the lyrics we have ascribed titles to the pieces although these are chiefly intended as a tool by which to refer to the songs. Their true titles remain unknown.
